North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue has established an in-service Building Inspection Program. Its purpose is: 1.To allow personnel to pre-fire plan target hazards within the Region 2.To familiarize personnel with all types of occupancies within their districts 3.To familiarize all personnel with street names and locations within their districts 4.To train all personnel to identify fire and building code violations, and to identify imminent hazards 5.To report any suspected fire code or building code violations to the fire officials and building officials of each municipality for abatement 6.To report any imminent hazards immediately to the fire official and building official such as: A. Unsafe structural conditions B. Locking or blocking of any means of egress C. Presence of explosives, explosive fumes or vapors D. Inadequacy of any required fire protection equipment 7.To help educate the general public within the region with regards to fire prevention and fire sfety 8.To alert and report to all personnel any special condition found during the building familiarization 9.To cause the identification and correction of hazards to the safety of the public and firefighting personnel operating on the fireground The benefits of the Building Inspection Program to the municipalities are many. Suspected fire and building code violations are reported to the fire oficials and building officials for abatement. Firefighters gain knowledge of the types of occupancies in their districts. Overall safety for both firefighting personnel and the general public is enhanced. |
