In layman’s terms, fire suppression is “putting the fire out”.  As an organization, North Hudson Regional Fire & Rescue is constantly striving to provide the best fire suppression services we can to the communities we serve.  Our personnel train in the area of fire suppression techniques and tactics on a regular basis.  Our fire companies are strategically located to provide optimum coverage for the communities in which we respond to emergencies.

Our “First Alarm” assignment (those companies dispatched upon the receipt of an “alarm of fire” or “smoke condition” within a building) consists of the following:

  • Deputy Chief
  • Battalion Chief
  • Mask Service Unit (MSU)
  • Safety Officer
  • Four (4) Engine Companies
  • Two (2) Ladder Companies
  • Rescue Company

If upon arrival it is determined that a “working fire” condition exists, additional resources are automatically dispatched to the scene.  These additional resources are listed below:

  • Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC)
  • Additional Engine (Squad Company)
Additional “alarms” (calls for additional companies) result in the dispatching of additional resources on a pre-determined basis.  As companies are dispatched to the scene, coverage for the region is monitored by the dispatch center.  At certain pre-determined levels, resources are requested from neighboring municipalities to provide coverage within the region.  This is referred to as “Mutual Aid”.
